Welcome to Colonial Nursery Garden Center Classes. Colonial Nursery will be holding garden center classes at our location. The classes with be instrcuted by the author of New Jersey Gardener’s Guide Pegi Ballister.
Pegi Ballister is well suited to speaking about New Jersey gardening. She is the author of New Jersey Gardener’s Guide, 183 garden plants selected to do well in New Jersey and Month By Month Gardening in New Jersey. Pegi received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Rutgers College and Master’s degree in Horticulture from Rutgers University. She has worked with numerous organizations in the horticulture field, including the New Jersey Farm Bureau as marketing consultant, Herb Tech of New Jersey as regional manager, The New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association, The Vegetable Growers Association of New Jersey and the Rutgers University Cooperative Extension as an assistant professor and county agricultural agent. Currently Pegi Manages Tri-County Cooperative Auction Market in East Windsor, NJ, a farmer’s cooperative that sells produce and ornamentals both wholesale for resale and to the public.
Her expertise is shared with the public through hosting the popular call-in radio program, ‘The Garden Show,’ on WCTC-AM 1450 in New Brunswick. This can be heard through the internet at www.wctcam.com. Additionally, her 30 minute cable televison show ‘At Home with Pegi”, produced by EBTV, features gardening, agriculture, the animals she loves and all the skills that go into running and maintaining a home. This can be viewed at the EBTV website www.ebpl.org/ebtv. For each of the last 10 years Pegi has also spoken at the Philadelphia Flower Show, one of the largest flower shows in the world and currently speaks at the NJ Flower show held in Edison.
The writing of Pegi Ballister-Howells appeared for 15 years in the Home News Tribune. The author has also been published in many other periodicals, including Garden State Home and Garden, The Star Ledger, The Courier News, Rutgers Magazine, Heresies, New Jersey Living, and The Plant Press, a quarterly newsletter for the nursery industry, Slow Food Central New Jersey and The Farm Bureau publications The Update and Farm Bureau News. Pegi, her husband, family, and assorted pets live on a ten-acre working farm, Blooming Acres, where they do extensive ornamental and vegetable gardening.
